Promoting Dignity, Care, Health and Independent Living

Gloucestershire Older Persons Association - Promoting Dignity, Care, Health and Independent Living

South West Seniors’ Network and GOPA Conference

GOPA in association with the South West Seniors Network held a conference on the 10th of march at the Kingsholm Rugby ground entitled

MAKING CONNECTIONS IN LATER LIFE – reducing social isolation in Gloucestershire

The Conference aimed to bring together health and social care professionals with older people who may not be connected to the statutory and voluntary services.  The conference had over 50 attendees

The speakers were Mary Morgan (GCCG Commissioner for Adult Services)

whose presentation is available via the link below:

LonelinessandSocialIsolationinGloucestershire

Rob Fountain (AUKG), whose presentation was too large to host on this site, gave a presentation entitled, Beyond Befriending: (Re)Creating Connected Communities and Amanda Cooper from Adult Education in Gloucestershire who presented on how they are addressing social isolation with a digital technology project.

There was also a local actor John Bassett who,  working with members of an Ageing Well group, dramatised scenarios about the issue of loneliness and social isolation.  The group had contributed their own thoughts to John’s ‘script’ and monologue.

After an excellent lunch there was a demonstration of Egyptian belly dancing by a group called Egyptian Spirit showing how belly dancing can assist in mobility and social isolation

Some photographs of the day can be accessed via the following link
