1 in 5 Pensioners Miss Out on £100s in Benefits

Independent Age has produced advice on claiming benefits and have reported on a Pensioner “Elsie” as an example of the kind of benefits one can claim for.

Elsie’s Story

The government sets a guaranteed minimum weekly level of income for older people. Elsie lives on just £2 less than the government’s minimum. She told us: “It’s not worth filling out all those forms for the price of a coffee every week.”  We told her that once she gets Guarantee Pension Credit, she’s automatically in line for many other benefits such as help with rent and Council Tax, extra money when the weather is very cold and free NHS dental treatment. It’s like belonging to a special club with many perks. Click here to read more about Guarantee Pension Credit:

Ageing Naturally Together is a self-directed resource pack developed in partnership with NHS Gloucester (until 2013) and Stroud District Council.  ANT is designed as a musical play about healthy ageing which groups of older people can perform in a variety of settings, either for themselves or for others.

‘Swigger’ is an interactive board game that takes players along a high street and presents them with Health, Legal, General Knowledge and Chance questions.  It provides a light hearted way to highlight the risks of alcohol use in everyday life.
